Solvent Gels
for the Cleaning of Works of Art
Edited by
Valerie Dorge 1994
Often when conservators attempt to remove dirt and
grime from the surface of a work of art, they face a challenge in avoiding
wanted layers of varnish, paint, or gilding. To find a cleaning agent which can remove the former while not affecting the latter has
been an issue of grave concern to conservators. Toward that end, the
Getty Conservation Institute and the Winterthur Museum have examined gel
cleaners used to clean paintings and painted works of art, and their
methodology, data, and conclusions are presented in this volume, which is
certain to be useful and informative to everyone faced with the task of
cleaning such materials. |
