Decorative Wood
edited
by D. Carthy & C. McWilliam
Proceedings of the SSCR Symposium held in Glasgow, 31 March, 1984. Although attitudes and methods have
developed over the past ten years or so, the principles of the treatment of
wood remain the same. The opening paper explains in detail the structure of the
material and a recommended approach when considering preservation and
conservation treatments. Other papers examine the techniques used to treat
painted wood surfaces and decorative wood in buildings. Furniture
conservation is discussed with particular reference to the reversibility of
adhesives. Larson's paper discusses case studies of polychrome wood
sculptures from the Victoria and Albert Museum and Bristows paper provides an
historical account with an extensive bibliography.
